About Our Directors
JOSEPH GUZMAN
DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Mr. Joseph Guzman is entering his fourteenth year in Frisco ISD and his twelfth year as the Director of Bands at Vandeventer Middle School.
Mr. Guzman teaches trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba, and the symphonic wind classes. Mr. Guzman did his undergraduate work at Texas Tech University and later received a Master’s Degree from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Mr. Guzman served as graduate assistant to the Mustang Marching Band and taught “The Art of Listening”, a music appreciation course for non-music majors. Prior to this position Mr. Guzman worked as a band director and general music teacher in the Dallas area.
After completing his degree at SMU, he became a private lesson instructor in the Frisco, Carrolton-Farmers Branch and Grand Prairie school districts. Mr. Guzman continues to be an active trombonist, performing with area orchestras, jazz ensembles and bands such as the Metropolitan Winds. He can also be found performing with his brass quintet, Sine Nomine Brass and the SlideShow Trombone Ensemble.
Mr. Guzman is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the International Trombone Association.
In his spare time Mr. Guzman enjoys traveling, cooking, seeing the latest Marvel movie and binge watching TV.
ALLISON JAdvani
associate director of bands
Mrs. Allison Jadvani is the Associate Band Director at Vandeventer Middle School. She teaches the beginner flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone classes. She is also the Director of the Symphonic Band.
Mrs. Jadvani has served as a Music Educator for over 20 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. She has taught in Indiana, Florida and Texas. Her most recent position was as Assistant Band Director at Wester Middle School in Frisco. Prior to that appointment, she taught private clarinet lessons at Vandeventer Middle School and Liberty High School, among other schools in Frisco ISD. Mrs. Jadvani is a member of Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association.
In Mrs. Jadvani’s free time she enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
IVan mendoza
DIRECTOR OF PERCUSSION - Vandeventer MS
Ivan Mendoza currently resides in Fort Worth, TX, where he graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Music Education in 2023.
During his time at TCU, Mr. Mendoza had the privilege of performing with the school’s top ensembles including the TCU wind symphony, symphony orchestra, steel band and percussion orchestra. He also served in the leadership team for the Horned Frog Marching Band during the 2022 football season that ended with a trip to LA for the CFP National Championships. Other notable accomplishments include performing with the TCU Percussion Orchestra at the Percussive Arts Society National Convention in 2022, as well as the publication of his first major work for percussion by C. Alan Publications. This same work was also premiered internationally by the Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan.
Since his graduation, Mr. Mendoza has spent his time working as a private lesson instructor and commissioning/arranging music for schools in and outside the DFW area.
ALEX RODZEWICH
Director of Percussion - LIBERTY HS
Alex Rodzewich is a first-year Assistant Percussion Director for Liberty High School and Vandeventer Middle School. Mr. Rodzewich received a Bachelor of Music Education from Texas Christian University where he studied under Dr. Brian A. West, Jeff Hodge, and Joey Carter.
In his years at TCU, Mr. Rodzewich performed with the Percussion Orchestra at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2019 and 2022, the Wind Symphony at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2020, and was the principal percussionist of the Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Rodzewich also served as the percussion section leader of the Horned Frog Marching Band in the 2020-2022 seasons. In the marching arts, he has vast experience in both battery and front ensemble, earned from his time teaching at various schools across the metroplex.
Outside of school, Mr. Rodzewich enjoys hiking, playing video games, and spending time with his friends and family.
